Little hens update

Our little hens
are getting so big. They are 3 weeks old now and have been moved to the sun room where it is much cooler and they have a view of the fields they will forage. Every morning when we go in to check on them, they stand eagerly at the front of the cage looking out the window. Unfortunately, our nights are still in the 20s-30s. The overprotective mother that I am keeps me from sending them out yet.

The tractor building project was how we spent our Easter afternoon outside in the nice sun. Some cedar shakes were added for roofing which was a light alternative to tar shingles and much cuter. The hubby did put a foot long strip of ice shield under the first row to protect against water. Since this is a portable chicken coop we had to make it as light as possible so it can be wheeled around. My hubby even cantilevered a foot of the back of the coop to put more weight over the wheels. I managed to (slowly) seal and paint the exterior.

He also added the treaded ramp with a pulley to close up the coop at night. That guy even joked of putting a handrail around the inside of the ramp so his girls don't accidentally fall over. Silly guy.
This pic shows the ramp up and pulley stretched and fastened.

This pic shows the ramp down and pulley is up.
Next pics to come will be of the cross brace in the middle of the run and a hatch to change out the water can and feed from the run. Also the interchangeable wheels two tractors for the two tractors. Stay tuned we will be putting the chicks out to pasture soon!
